What are Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made casings that are affixed to your damaged teeth. They give your teeth an aesthetically pleasing appearance and mimic the appearance of natural tooth enamel. Modern veneers are stain resistant and are perfect for restoring teeth or preventing further harm.
How does the procedure work?
The procedure for dental veneers normally requires 2 visits to complete, scheduled over the span of 2 to 3 weeks. On your first visit Dr. Bergman will thoroughly examine your overall oral health, which includes taking X-rays. After taken note of your desired tooth shape and appearance, Dr. Bergman will gently shave a thin layer off the outside of your tooth enamel and make a mold of your teeth which will be used to create your own customized veneers. You will then be given temporary veneers to wear until your permanent ones are created.
On your second visit (typically a week after your first visit), Dr. Bergman will fit your permanent veneers into place while making any required adjustments. They are then cemented into place using an adhesive that naturally blends your tooth color. The adhesive is hardened using a laser, and your new smile is now complete.
Caring for your new dental veneers
As with all dental procedures, it is important that you maintain your veneers with proper oral hygiene consisting of regular brushing and flossing. Dr. Bergman recommends you brush at least twice a day and floss once a day in order to maintain fantastic oral health.
How long do veneers last?
Veneers are a more permanent solution than dental bonding procedures, and realistically last up to 20 years with good oral hygiene. Even though they are highly resistant to staining and chipping, it is still important to schedule routine checkups to make sure your veneers are in good shape.
