Composite Fillings

What are composite fillings?
Composite fillings are made from a resin material that is tooth-colored. After removing and cleaning the decayed portion of tooth, Dr. Bergman will place the filling on top of the tooth. A special light is used to harden the resin and solidify it into place. The material is then polished and shaped, making the final filling virtually invisible to the naked eye.

How do I know if I need a composite filling?
Fillings provide a multitude of oral health benefits for patients suffering from tooth decay, chipped / broken teeth, small holes and gaps, or patients who simply want to replace those old metallic fillings. During your routine cleaning visits, Dr. Bergman checks for cavities to see if you require fillings.

Why are composite fillings better than metallic fillings?
Composite fillings do not contain mercury like the material used in traditional metal fillings. Therefore the resin material used in composite fillings is non-toxic and safe for your mouth. Not only are they safer than the old metal fillings, they are also incredibly more attractive. Composite fillings are stronger and more durable, and are covered under most insurance plans.
